Man bites son, shoots at van

LEETONIA, Ohio (WKBN) – Police in Leetonia say a man started shooting at his son Wednesday afternoon while police and workers stood nearby waiting to shut off his utilities.

The incident happened at 198 Walnut St.

Police said workers came last week to shut off the utilities and the homeowner, Doug Illig, Sr., became violent. On Wednesday, they returned to the home with a police escort.

After arguing with his son, Illig became enraged and bit his son, shot at his van and took off on foot.

“There was an officer there when it happened,” said Chief John Soldano. “I responded as a backup unit. When we got there, we made sure we got everybody out of the way and to the safe zone.”

No one was hurt in the incident.

Police have still not apprehended Illig. He will face several charges when caught.
