3 indicted in Youngstown homicide

Breandre and Bralin Allen were indicted on murder charges.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Two brothers and a third person were indicted Thursday in connection to the city’s second homicide of the year.

Breandre Allen, 26, and Bralin Allen, 25, have been in jail on a $1 million bond since their arrest following the April 2 shooting death of Maurise Kerns, 24, who was found on a porch in the 500 block of Idora Avenue. They were indicted on one count each of aggravated murder with a firearm specification.

Also indicted Thursday on the same charges was Antwanette M. Kennedy. She has not yet been arrested and no information on her role in the murder was available from prosecutors.

Youngstown Police Detective Brad Blackburn said after the murder that investigators believe the Allen brothers shot Kerns in retaliation for an incident that happened on March 21 where Bralin Allen was shot. Blackburn said the brothers suspected Kerns was responsible.

Tips from the public helped officers make a quick arrest in the case.
