Fellow classmates honor fallen veterans

Veteran's dedication

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Two Austintown men killed in the Vietnam War now have a second place of honor at their alma mater.

A new memorial was dedicated Thursday inside Fitch High School for Lt. Charles Brown and Sgt. James Prommersberger.

Both men graduated from Fitch in 1962 and both are Silver Star recipients.

Last August, their classmates dedicated a memorial that sits outside the football stadium, but they wanted to put one inside as well to make sure everyone that walks the halls remembers their sacrifice.

“It has been a tremendous honor in the past two years working on this committee and the 1962 class,” said Kristin O’Neill, daughter of Sgt. James Prommersberger. “I can’t describe the gratitude I have to these people for they have done.”

A third graduate from Fitch also died in the Vietnam War. Darryl Dombroski was from the class of 1966. His friends are working on honoring his memory by creating a scholarship.
