Police name Grohl Alley vandal

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Warren police now have a name to go along with surveillance video of the man seen defacing murals in Grohl Alley last weekend.

The suspect has been identified as Kurtis Aguilera, 35, of Miami, Fla. Police believe Aguilera has ties to the Warren area.

Warren Lt. Jeff Cole said that after they released surveillance video of the crime, calls came in to the station identifying the suspect.

“When this first started, it seemed like a childish prank, but a lot of hard work went into this and we reached out to Miami Dade County who was very instrumental in helping us identify him,” said Cole.

Cole said Aguilera is not only wanted in the Grohl Alley vandalism, but he is suspected in other graffiti popping up around town. In fact, it was his tell-tale signature, “Jeen ST,” that led police to his Flicker account and other identifying information.

This isn’t the first time Aguilera has taken to destroying artwork. He is a suspected vandal in San Francisco and other major cities.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Aguilera. He is charged with felony vandalism in the Grohl Alley defacing and criminal damaging in connection to other graffiti in the city.

Vandal defaces Grohl Alley

Grohl Alley is named after Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters founder Dave Grohl and is the backdrop for the FuzzFest music festival in Warren.

Cole said putting a price tag on the amount of the vandalism will be hard and they will have to see what it will cost to restore it.

“I am no artist, but I know you can’t put a value on an artist’s work. We will have to take a look at the restoration value, but the artwork is priceless,” said Cole.
