NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WKBN) — Some of the best bowlers in the area competed in an annual bowling tournament Sunday in New Castle.
The 13th Annual Michael Michalojko Memorial Scratch Bowling Tournament was held at the Colonial Lanes bowling alley.
Michalojko opened the bowling alley in 1962. He passed away in 2001.
More than 100 bowlers competed in the individual tournament for the chance to win $2,200.
“A lot of people like to do competitive bowling. The money’s good. They like the cause. So, this is the time of year where a lot of tournaments are being run in various establishments throughout the country,” said Michalojko’s son and tournament director, Bob Michalojko.
Proceeds from the event will go towards scholarships for local junior bowlers.
Organizers said they’ve given out nearly $20,000 in scholarships since the tournament began in 2002.
