Anti-fracking rally held in Niles

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – A group concerned about hydraulic fracturing held a protest Sunday in Niles.

The event was dubbed by organizers as a New Orleans Style Worship Service. Dozens of participants gathered at 140 E. Church Street to draw attention to the potential dangers associated with the natural gas industry.

Last year, the city of Niles entered into an agreement to allow Houston-based Halcon Field Services to install two pipelines through the bike trail that cuts through the city.

Calls placed to Niles city officials about Sunday’s protest were not immediately returned.

A Halcon spokesperson said they have no comment.
