Residents celebrate Palm Sunday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown celebrated the beginning of Holy Week with a special Palm Sunday mass on Sunday.

Palm Sunday is always the week before Easter Sunday. The special day recognizes Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. As he came into town, people laid palm leaves and other items on the ground as a sign of honor.

Associate Pastor, Father Edward Brienz led the service. About 300 people came out for the special mass this morning.

“By all Catholics joining in these around the world, under the leadership of Pope Francis, we’re all joined as one. And we’re reminded of so many of the truths about our Savior’s time with us, and his continued help in our lives,” said Brienz.

St. Columba will continue with its Holy Week celebrations, with a number of services, including a Last Supper service on Thursday and an Easter Vigil Saturday evening.
