Bomb squad clears threat at Warren office building

The bomb squad went to the Warren Community Development Building Monday morning after receiving reports of a suspicious suitcase.

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — The Youngstown Bomb Squad averted a potential threat Monday morning, safely detonating a suitcase left near the front entrance of the Community Development building in Warren, which had prompted employees to call authorities.

The squad, which cleared the scene around 10 a.m., detonated the suitcase as a precaution, saying they found some mason jars and personal items inside.

The building houses the city’s tax offices and health department and is located at 418 W. Main St. in Warren. The bomb squad arrived at the scene around 7:30 a.m. after receiving reports about the suitcase.

“When buildings are open to the public as often as city buildings are, it’s especially helpful when members of the staff are acutely aware of their environment,” said Warren Safety-Service Director Enzo Cantalamessa.

Employees returned to work about 10 a.m.
