Diamond Kings Contenders: 4/14

Diamond Kings contest is now underway. Throughout the regular season we will highlight some of the best high school baseball and  softball players in the Valley. Those candidates will posted online at WKBN.com.  And at the end of the season we will announce our nine winners…our 2014 Diamond Kings. Here’s a few of the kids that caught our attention last week.

We begin in Vienna, with a reigning Diamond King…Mathews pitcher Cheyenne Eggens. She had a no-hitter through 6, and struck out 7 in the Stangs 3-1 loss to Windham on Thursday.

Austintown Fitch’s Patrick Gerberry is off to a good start. The Falcons pitcher gave up just five hits, and didn’t allow a single run in Wednesday’s shutout victory over Ursuline.

And,speaking of the Irish, Makayla Shore shined on offense and defense.  She struck out six last Thursday, and recorded 2 hits and 2 RBI in Ursuline’s 19-0 route of JFK.
