GOP submits candidates to replace Belinky

Judge Mark Belinky

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Mahoning County Republican Party is urging Ohio Gov. John Kasich to appoint one of three candidates to replace Mahoning County Probate Judge Mark Belinky, who resigned last month amid a state investigation.

The party is recommending three of four candidates, excluding the endorsed Democratic candidate Susan Maruca.

The GOP is recommending Attorney Mary Ann Fabrizi, of Berlin Center, Attorney Robert N. Rusu, Jr. of Canfield and Attorney Christopher Sammarone of Canfield.

Mahoning County Republican Party Chairman Mark Munroe said a screening committee interviewed applicants April 12 and came up with their recommendations after contacting the Mahoning County Bar Association and did not find any of the applicants to be “not qualified” for the job.

Kasich will appoint a replacement to fill Belinky’s vacated seat until a new probate judge is elected in November.
