Sam Breese has built himself quite a resume as a student athlete at Lakeview. In four years with the Sailors, he anchored both sides of the line on the gridiron, and dominated all facets of the wrestling mat. Wednesday, the senior was recognized for his back-to-back state championships in wrestling, while officially signing his letter of intent to Kent State University.
“It just feels so good,” said Breese. “That’s what I’ve been working for my whole career. I wanted to be up there forever.”
And now, he will…with 127 career wins, and countless memories on the mat, and the football field.
“Undescribable how amazing of a ride this was,” he said. “No one really expected it either, it just happened from all my hard work and dedication.”
And he plans to continue that work ethic at the next level at Kent State.
“I just need to stay focused. I’ll have to win the starting spot, which I haven’t done in awhile. But I’m definitely ready, just need to get mentally prepared, and keep my grades up.”
Whatever his future holds, Breese’s impact will not soon be forgotten.
“I definitely think he’ll be remembered as one of the greatest wrestlers we’ve had here,” said Lakeview wrestling coach Tom Tingley. “The ability to recognize what he needs to do, to set his goals, and to push himself.”
