SHARON, Pennsylvania (WKBN) — A residential structure fire in Sharon Tuesday night killed an 84-year-old man, according to a Sharon Police press release.

Sharon police and fire departments went to 1188 Griswold St. for the fire, finding the building engulfed in flames. Officers found that Robert Carson was inside the home. Neighbor Rick Rueberger tried to enter the house, but was unable because of the the smoke and heat, according to the release.

Next of kin have been notified of Carson’s passing.

Sharon firefighters put out the fire and pronounced Carson dead at the scene. Rueberger was taken to Sharon Regional Health System, where he was treated for smoke inhalation.

The Sharon police and fire departments are investigating the fire. Sharon Fire Chief Terry Whalen said it appears the fire started in the first-floor bedroom, where Carson was located, then spread to the rest of the house.
