man turns himself in after hitting milton township police cruiser

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) — A woman’s body was found floating in the Ohio River Wednesday afternoon by workers at the East Liverpool dry docks near the Jennings Randolph Bridge, according to our news print partner, the Lisbon Morning Journal.

The investigation is being handled by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department because most of the river is in West Virginia. The sheriff would not release the woman’s name pending notification of relatives.

After the body sighting was reported, the Chester Volunteer Fire Department deployed two boats manned by six firefighters who conducted the recovery operation, the newspaper reported. Fire Chief John Hissam said it appeared the body had been in the water for a while and was caught on the end of one of the barges.

The body was taken to Weirton Medical Center in Weirton, W.Va. An autopsy will be conducted by the Hancock County Medical Examiner’s Office.
