Autism expert talks about awareness

SHARON, Ohio(WKBN) — Local teachers, social workers and therapists— just some of the people on hand to hear from a man who leads a hugely important autism initiative in Pennsylvania.

Not long ago we told you about the updated statistics on autism— now one in 68 U.S. children has the disorder.

Michael Miklos is the lead consultant for the Pennsylvania Training and technical Assistance Network– Autism Initiative.

Today the group was learning about evidence-based intervention for children.

“There’s so much information that’s available in terms of autism awareness, there’s not been as much of a focus on what to do in terms of how people will actually sit down and work and help these children,” said Michael Miklos, Pennsylvania Training and Tech Assistance Network.

The Connections Autism Program of Sharon Regional Health System hosted the event.

It’s their seventh annual conference.
