Youngstown street will get $1.4 million makeover

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Youngstown City Council on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution authorizing the resurfacing of Fifth Avenue.

It will be a total makeover and include a new road, curbing, sidewalk repairs and catch basin improvements. It will run from the Madison Avenue Expressway by the Youngstown State University football stadium to Gypsy Lane at the Liberty Township border.

The project will cost an estimated $1.4 million, of which only $40,000 will come from the city. A federal grant will pick up 80 percent and the state will cover the rest.

Most of the work will be done from late July to October.
