Northside Farmers’ Market plans expansion

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The Northside Farmers’ Market is preparing to expand for the Spring season.

The market is open all-year round at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Youngstown. However, the market is preparing to set up booths outside the church as well, now that the weather is warming up.

They’re looking at the Second week in May, and managers said the harsh winter slowed up production on many of the greens, mainly lettuce and spinach, but they were able to get the produce from other growers.

“We have some people with green houses, but the green house stuff stops growing when it gets so cold. So, we haven’t had greens every time. But today, we brought some greens from the Cleveland Green House partners,” said Northside Farmers’ Market manager Jim Converse.

The Northside Farmers’ Market will be moving to a bigger location June 7. The new location is the MYCAP office at 1225 Fifth Avenue on the corner of Broadway.
