YWCA hosts Girls Rock Camp

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — Volunteers got a crash course on Sunday on how to teach young girls to rock.

A pair of workshops was held at the Warren YWCA for the Girls Rock Camp! Ohio.

A weeklong event, the camp is for girls ages seven to 17 in the Warren and surrounding area.

During the camp, girls will learn how to write songs, play an instrument, dance and more. It will also teach them some important life skills.

“It builds a lot of self-esteem for the girls. It will allow them to break out of their shells. A lot of young people don’t realize the talents that they do have, until they’re forced to do it. So we want to help to empower them through song writing and music and everything, just to express themselves,” said Activities Chairwoman Audrey Foreback.

At the end of the week, the girls put on a live performance. Last year, more than 50 girls took park in the camp. It’s a number organizers hope to beat this year.
