Mom pleads guilty in McDonald’s play area overdose

Heroin overdose

CINCINNATI (AP) – A mother who police say overdosed on heroin with her boyfriend at a McDonald’s play area near Cincinnati has pleaded guilty to child endangerment.

Tamica Jeffers pleaded guilty Monday in Hamilton County court after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors.

In exchange, prosecutors dropped a second charge of child endangerment.

The 33-year-old Jeffers, of Dillsboro, Ind., wept in court as she denied ever using heroin, telling Judge Fanon Rucker that she had a seizure after her boyfriend overdosed March 9 in a McDonald’s indoor play area.

The couple was with her two children, a 5-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, at the time.

Rucker sentenced Jeffers to six months in jail, with credit for 132 days.

Jeffers’ boyfriend, 37-year-old Robert Palmer, was sentenced to six months last week.
