Youngstown golden retriever apparently shot with crossbow

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Police found a dog, apparently killed by a bolt from a crossbow Sunday, after its Youngstown owner alerted authorities of the situation.

Owner Rodd Coonce said someone shot his dog, a golden retriever named Teddie, according to a police report. Police found the deceased canine with blood coming from its left side.

Coonce told police he heard what sounded like a gun shot and a dog whimpering, followed by Teddie entering his yard bleeding.

Officers found a broken crossbow bolt with a small pool of fresh blood nearby.

Police have identified a person of interest in the case.
