Church’s annual book sale kicks off

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — A quarter won’t buy much, but it will buy a book for the next few days.

The 58th annual Westminster Presbyterian Church book sale kicked off Wednesday. There are more than 40,000 books to choose from, with most costing between 25 cents and $2.

Proceeds from the sale help the church give back to the community, including supporting places like the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.

“We’re a mission church. We just support missions throughout the world and the community,” said book sale committee member Janice Pickens.

Pickens said the sale started in downtown Youngstown and has grown every year. She said the community donates the books, dropping them off on the church’s porch all year. Pickens said the Mahoning County Green Team also refers people to the church when they bring books for recycling.

The three-day sale runs through Friday. Paperbacks are 25 cents on Thursday and everything is half off on Friday. After 4 p.m. Friday, a bag of books will be $1.
