Trumbull County Sheriff’s office major cited in Warren Twp. crash

WARREN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol has cited Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office Major Harold Firster for failure to yield when turning left in an April 9 crash on U.S. Route 422.

Firster was on the job at the time. When he turned to block the progress of another vehicle, he struck a semi-truck. Firster did not have his lights or sirens turned on, according to the report.

“I got a citation from (the State Highway Patrol), and I’ll do anything anybody else does,” Firster said. “I’ll take my medicine.”

Firster sustained minor injuries, but refused treatment at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Norman Beitzer, 57, of Warren, was not injured.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

A dispatcher at the patrol barracks could not confirm the status of the investigation into the vehicle that was the target of the pursuit.
