Breakfast kicks off Community Cup season

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The 25th annual Youngstown Area Community Cup season began Thursday with a kickoff breakfast in the auditorium of the YMCA of Youngstown’s central branch in downtown Youngstown.

The Community Cup is a program of the YMCA of Youngstown that has involved more than 80 businesses and organizations and thousands of employees participating in 17 athletic events. Those in attendance learned about program changes and benefits of participation.

The Community Cup aims to create an awareness of the importance of physical fitness for individuals and participating companies. Additionally, the program creates an attitude of teamwork and pride within each sponsoring organization and promotes community spirit.

“Health and fitness. The healthier the employee is, the better off the company is. We try to create the second goal within the company. Build the company moral and strengthen your employees within the organization,” said Community Cup director Jennifer Quinlan.

The 2014 Community Cup will be held Sept. 6, with preliminary events to take place the weekends of Aug. 8 and 9 and Aug. 22-24.
