Girard softball blanks Struthers

The Girard softball team scored five unanswered runs and used solid pitching to shut out Struthers, 5-0 Thursday.

The Indians were led by Neco Maderitz, who went 2-3 with a triple and 2 RBI’s on the night. Mel Bakes also had a double and brought home a run for the winners.

On the hill for Girard (7-5, 4-4 AAC), Rosie Maderitz, Jessica Dohy, and Karlee Byrne combined for 9 strike outs, 1 walk, and 4 hits allowed.

For Struthers, Dana Wilkos pitched a full game with 1 strike out, 1 walk, allowing just 3 hits.

Preshus Brown had a triple, Kelsey Agnone a double, and Sweta Rosen and Alexa Bayus each had a single.
