This story was originally published in April of 2014, but was brought back to remember the 32nd anniversary of the Idora Park fire.
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Amusement parks are for people, a friendly place. People came today to watch on old friend in agony, twisting and burning in the smoke.

Each saw the fire through different eyes. For Marcy Taylor of Youngstown, it was a summer of lost fun and opportunities.
“Cause it was real nice, we could just walk down the street and it was right here. Kids could have a nice day at the park and ride some rides. Now we’re gonna have to go somewhere else for a while until they get it fixed.”

For a few others, the fire brought moments of uncertainty, even terror.
Somehow the flames and the smoke, the twisted iron wood seemed out of place against the blue skies. For many, the opening of Idora Park was the beginning of the summer season. For others in this area, summer is already over.
