Amusement parks are for people, a friendly place, and people came today to watch on old friend in agony, twisting and burning in the smoke.
Each saw the fire through different eyes, for Marcy Taylor of Youngstown it was a summer of lost fun and opportunities. “Cause it was real nice, we could just walk down the street and it was right here. Kids could have a nice day at the park and ride some rides. Now were gonna have to go somewhere else for a while until they get it fixed.”
And for a few others the fire brought moments of uncertainty, even terror.
Somehow the flames and the smoke, the twisted iron wood seemed out of place against the blue skies. For many, the opening of Idora Park was the beginning of the summer season, but for many people in this area summer is already over.
