2 of 3 suspected Trumbull County Jail hostage-takers held at Mahoning Co. Jail

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — On Friday, Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene confirmed the Mahoning County Jail is housing Richard Ware and David Martin, two of the three inmates reportedly involved in taking Trumbull County Corrections Officer Joe Lynn hostage for five hours Wednesday night.

Investigation into hostage situation begins.

“We’re used to handling high risk inmates. We have policies and procedures in place that deal with high risk inmates,” Greene said. “We’ve done it a million times.”

Greene theorized that the Mahoning County Jail was chosen for the inmates because it is the closest to the Trumbull County Jail and would be the most convenient for any court dates the trio may face.

WKBN has learned that the state’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations crime scene unit was at the Trumbull County Jail Thursday well into the night figuring out how and why Lynn, who was not hurt in the incident, was taken captive.

No charges have been filed against the inmates, and investigators said that likely won’t happen for several weeks.

Kevin Johns, the third member of the purported hostage-taking group, is at the Lorain Correctional Institution.
