Crews called in to rescue Mosquito Lake boater

CORTLAND, Ohio (WKBN) — Wind and waves on Mosquito Lake this afternoon caused some tense moments– when a 14-foot boat capsized.

When rescue crews got to the small fishing boat, the 24-year-old man who had been inside was in the water– hanging on to the edge of the boat.

Local fire and rescue crews were on the scene, along with officials from ODNR.

The boater’s name wasn’t released, but he’s said to be in good condition.

He wasn’t taken to the hospital.

“Dress for the weather dress in layers, because you can get hypothermic on this lake in the middle of July. If the water’s still cold there’s always that possibility and always, always, always, use your life jacket,” said Lt. Kevin Kuriatnyk, Mecca Fire

Bazetta Fire department also was called to the scene – but were called off when the fisherman was rescued.
