YSU draws Virginia in NCAA Tourney

The Youngstown State women’s tennis team will open play in the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships against Virginia on Friday, May 9. Joining the Penguins in the four-team Charlottesville Regional are Kentucky and Columbia. The field of 64 was announced on Tuesday evening.

The Penguins and Cavaliers are scheduled to face each other on Friday, May 9 in the second match of the day at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va. The first match features the Wildcats and Lions at 10 a.m.

It will be a busy two days for the Virginia tennis programs as the Cavaliers will also be playing host to a men’s tennis regional.

YSU posted a 14-11 overall mark this year and reached their first NCAA tournament on the heels of winning the Horizon League Championship last Sunday. Virginia (21-5) was named the third seed of the tournament and is the ACC Tournament and co-regular-season championships. The 21 wins are a school record for the Cavaliers.
