School addresses threats, rumors fed through social media

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Officials with the Austintown Local School District and the Austintown Police Department are investigating threats made to a student involving a weapon on a school bus.

According to a news release from Superintendent Vince Colaluca, a parent called the school Thursday morning and said that his son had been threatened by another student to “commit an act of violence involving a weapon.”

An Austintown police officer was dispatched to the location of the bus. An investigation was conducted to ensure the safety of students and no weapons were discovered.

The safety of students and the staff is a “number one” priority and situations involving threats of violence are handled with a timely response, the release stated.

Colaluca said more information on the incident will be released pending an investigation by the Austintown Police Department and Austintown Local School District.
