CHAMPION, Ohio (WKBN) — The Warren bike trail is expanding again, with the eventual goal being for it to stretch from Lake Erie to the Ohio River.
A groundbreaking was held Friday morning in Champion behind the Trumbull Careeer and Technical Center for the third phase of the Western Reserve Greenway Bike Trail. The two-mile trail will connect Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Western Reserve Greenway Trail Project.
“This is just a great thing for the area. Kids are going to be able to ride their bikes to school here. They are talking about maybe an auxiliary path to the school. As you can see, there is a lot of interest. It’s going to be a great economic development tool,” said Warren Councilman John Brown, who also is a bike enthusiast.
This latest part of the bike trail will begin at North River Road and end at Champion Street.
The second phase of the Warren bike trail that stretches from Woodland Street to South Street opened in August.
