Boardman High School hosted their first ever home lacrosse games Saturday. It’s the first year for both the boys and girls programs, as they work to build enthusiasm for the sport.
Boardman plays other club and school teams around the area. The boys fell 13-1 to East Lake this afternoon. They become the fourth area team to add lacrosse, joining Canfield, Cardinal Mooney, and Southeast. First year head coach Dave Merry is optimistic.
“It’s a tough start, but the kids are really enjoying it,” said Merry. “I have kids that have never seen the sport played before out there competing. But it’s great to see the support by our fans.”
Boardman plays in the Ohio High School Lacrosse Association (OHSLA). Lacrosse is still several years away from becoming an OHSAA sport.
The Boardman girls split two games early in the day, with a 5-4 win over Norwin, and 6-0 loss to Brecksville.
