Ursuline softball sweeps doubleheader


The Irish Strikeout Cancer Tournament continued at the YSU softball complex Saturday, with Ursuline sweeping their doubleheader. 

In the first game, Ursuline shut out Richmond Edison, 7-0. Makayla Shore pitched a 2-hitter, striking out 10. The Lady Irish scored 5 runs in the first inning on a 2-run double by both Stephanie Ohalek and Megan Ross, and an RBI double by Kara Gatta. Macey Gunther, Ohalek and Ross each had two hits.

The Fighting Irish went on to defeat Geneva 13-3 in the second game. It took just five innings, behind a strong showing from Stephanie Ohalek (3 hits and 2 RBI). Megan Ross had a single, double and 3 RBI. Cassie Hanuschak contributed a single and triple while Macey Gunther, McKenzie Stimpert and Christina Xenakis also added 2 hits for the Lady Irish.

Makayla Shore scattered 4 hits to pick up her 11th win. Ursuline improves their record to 11-4-1 on the season.
