BAZETTA TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) — Ohioans of all ages could fish free this weekend without a fishing license in any of the state’s public waters.
Mosquito Lake State Park in Bazetta had some folks taking advantage of the free entertainment.
Joe Sofchek, who runs the marina bait shop, said the day draws a lot of families, even in a year when the weather has been playing havoc with the water.
“This cold weather has them shut down a bit, but they’re still, we’re getting a lot of wind and the lake’s awful rough the last couple of days,” said Sofchek. “The guys that have been going out have been coming back in because it’s so rough out there. But in general fishing’s been pretty decent.”
Ohio anglers 16-years and older are required to have a valid fishing license at all other times of the year.
Licenses cost $19. An estimated 1.3 million people fish each year in Ohio.
