Motorcycle safety stressed

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — May is Motorcycle Awareness Month, and the highway patrol has stats on cycle safety to drive the point home.

From 2011 to 2013, motorcycle-involved crashes resulted in 470 fatalities and more than 11,078 injuries in Ohio. There were 263 crashes in Trumbull County, 238 in Mahoning and 139 in Columbiana.

In 2013, there were 132 motorcycle-related fatalities in Ohio. That was down 19 percent from from 2012.

To help keep the numbers dropping, the patrol also urges riders to take a training class and always wear proper safety gear.
