Akron University hopes to name next president by Memorial Day

AKRON, Ohio — An Akron University communications worker said that the school’s board of trustees will meet in executive session Monday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to discuss their presidential search.

Eileen Korey, University of Akron Chief Communications Officer, said the board will talk to a variety of constituency groups that met with the presidential candidates. The trustees will hear each group’s opinion on the candidate and whether or not they are a good fit for the school.

Some of the constituency groups that met with the candidates include a student group, faculty group, staff group, the school’s deans and community members.

Korey says there is no public meeting scheduled after today’s executive session nor any news conference scheduled.

Before a formal announcement is made, the Board of Trustees will extend an offer to the candidate they wish to become the next president. If all agree on terms of an agreement, they will move forth.

The Board of Trustees has two public meetings scheduled for May 12 and 19. On either of those dates, trustees are likely to announce the school’s next president. Korey said the board has stated that they would like to name their next president before Memorial Day.
