Mooney rallies past Howland

Cardinal Mooney rallied to score four unanswered runs and beat Howland, 4-3 at Segall Field Tuesday.

Howland led 3-0 with three runs in the bottom of the 3rd, but it was all Mooney from there. The Cards tallied a pair of runs in the fourth, and addded one run in both the sixth and seventh innings to seal the victory.

Joe Cunningham drove in a pair of runs for Mooney, while Gino DiVincenzo also drove in a run. Kurtis Kuszmaul and Matt Doan each drove in a run for the Tigers in the setback.

On the mound, Cunningham pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs with five strikeouts. Howland’s Kyle Watson suffered the loss in relief, pitching one inning, allowing one earned run.

The Cardinals (13-2) recently learned their postseason fate as well. They will play the winner of Lakeview and Crestwood later this month.

Howland falls to 12-6 on the season.
