Hadley man killed in Sugar Grove Twp. crash

Fatal crash

SUGAR GROVE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WKBN) – A Hadley man was killed after crashing a dump truck on Methodist Road in Mercer County.

According to Hempfield Township Police Chief David Morgan, Howard P. Crispen 57, was traveling north on Methodist Road, near Leech Road, around 11 a.m. Wednesday when he lost control around a bend and flipped the dump truck he was driving.

Crispen was ejected from the truck and pinned beneath the tri-axle farm vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck was carrying a full load of large rocks that spilled onto the roadway. The road remained closed as of 5 p.m. and Morgan said it will not reopen until Wednesday evening. Part of the roadway was damaged and the asphalt was broken in the crash.

Pennsylvania State Police were called to the scene to inspect the vehicle and found several violations with the truck that may have contributed to the crash. Morgan said since the truck was registered as farm equipment there are specifications that differ from a passenger vehicle.
