Women renovate local home

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Seven women are working on renovating a Youngstown home as part of National Women Build Week.

A home on Cornell Street is one of 300 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country participating in the yearly event.

Since Women Build Week ends on Mother’s Day, it had some of the volunteers thinking of the future homeowners and their own mom’s while they were working.

“I know they were planning on this house being for a mother and maybe two children or one child and I feel like it can be my Mother’s Day gift to her, although I don’t know who it is, it’s kinda just like happy Mother’s Day, my gift from me to you,” said volunteer Mariah Powell.

“You know, I’m thinking more of my mother than of my children, and being a mother too, my mother’s gone, but it makes me really miss her and think about her so this is kind of for her,” added volunteer Janet Kovach.

Women’s Build Week has been going on for seven years.
