YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Women in Youngstown now have a great way to stay in shape and have some fun at the same time: With a new women’s basketball league.
The idea was conceived just a few weeks ago, and there are already 70 women taking part.
It’s something new to Youngstown and its founder said it’s already been a great success. He actually got the idea while traveling in the military and seeing the opportunities other cities had available for female athletes.
“When I came home and I seen a need for the league. Actually talking to a couple women who like to play basketball. But they had no outlet. If they wanted to play they had to play with the guys. So I told them [I’d] do something for them. So here we are,” said organizer Delmas Stubbs.
Stubbs said the current season will run five weeks, but he plans to have teams playing all summer long.
