Drug raid conducted near Niles high school

Pot raid investigation

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) — Complaints from neighbors prompted a drug raid Tuesday evening near Niles McKinley High School.

Niles police and officers from the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force have been investigating reported drug activity at 6 E. Woodland Ave. for several months, according to a news release from the Niles Police Department. They were assisted in Tuesday’s raid by Howland police and the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department.

Tyrell A. Williamson, 36, who lives at the apartment, was charged with aggravated drug trafficking in a school zone, a third-degree felony. Police said Niles McKinley High School is located approximately one-tenth of a mile away.

Willliamson also had an active warrant out of Warren Municipal Court for failure to pay fines and costs from a previous drug conviction. He has an extensive criminal record, police said.

Additional drug trafficking charges and prostitution charges will be filed against other suspects after TAG officers confer with the Niles City Prosecutor.
