A look back: Oakhill indictments may be dismissed

(Story originally aired July 7, 2011)

The Oakhill Renaissance corruption case could be over before the trial even starts.

Sources involved with the case say Special Prosecutors assigned to it will likely ask visiting Judge Thomas Wolfe to dismiss the 73-count indictment against the defendants, including businessman Anthony Cafaro and a number of current and former officeholders.

In recent weeks, defense lawyers filed documents claiming “prosecutorial misconduct”, but at this point, it is unclear if that’s had anything to do with these latest developments.

A hearing on the Oakhill case is scheduled for Monday.
