County to have record year for paving

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – It’s a smooth ride now on parts of Southern Boulevard in Boardman.

Mahoning Counter Engineer Pat Ginnetti updated commissioners Thursday about major paving projects in the area.

Southern Boulevard from Route 224 south to Washington Street is pothole free. Sunoco resurfaced the road. The oil giant is building a pipeline and is fixing damage to roads because of its operation.

“With Sunoco alone, we are between 30 and 40 miles of roads that will get repaved as a result of the damages that will be incurred from their operation,” said Ginnetti. “First Energy has roughly 20 miles in their RUMA.”

A paving project is also underway on Western Reserve Road from Interstate 680 to Route 170.

Ginnetti said between those agreements along with others and in-house projects, it will be a record year for the county.
