Officers remembered at memorial

COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) – Peace officers who made the ultimate sacrifice were honored Friday in Columbiana.

Ohio Supreme Court Justice William O’Neill spoke at the event hosted by the Quaker Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Officers from all around the area gathered to pay their respects. The event included a bag piper and recognition of all current and former peace officers.

“Tragically, Ohio is fifth in the nation in the number of fallen police officers. I think it is important for all of us to take a moment out of our life to think about the sacrifice that all police officers give to us every day,” said Justice O’Neill. “I think we can take a couple of hours and just say thank you.”

The ceremony included the reading of all of the fallen officers from the area.
