Ohio store owner donates entire stock to charity

CLEVELAND (AP) – A Cleveland hardware store owner who is retiring and closing his doors after 54 years says he’s donating his entire stock to Habitat for Humanity.

Rudy Rosales is shuttering Rudy’s Hardware in the city’s Slavic Village neighborhood this week. But instead of liquidating the stock of the 10,000-sqaure-foot-store, he’s donating every last nut and bolt to the charity that builds homes for deserving people.

The 74-year-old Rosales tells the Northeast Ohio Media Group that he’d rather the stock become part of the community rather than auctioning it off.

The charity said some of the hardware will be used to rehab houses in the neighborhood, while other items will serve to restock Habitat’s construction warehouse for projects all over the city. The rest will be sold at the charity’s store.
