BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — Dr. Shayesteh said it has always been known that a Mediterranean diet is the best one for optimum health, especially heart health.
But new research now reveals the reasons why.
He said the Mediterranean diet involves using olive oil exclusively for cooking and eating. It also involves lots of nuts and seeds.
The doctor said people on a Mediterranean diet avoid white bread and eat only whole grain or wheat bread. They also eat a lot of green, leafy vegetables and fresh fruits.
The major source of protein for the Mediterranean diet is fish.
