Howland student is bee bound

HOWLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – An eighth grader from Howland has been studying hard as he prepares to compete in a national spelling bee competition.

In March, Elias Kondolios took first place in the Tribune Chronicle Spelling Bee. This weekend, he leaves for Washington, D.C. to compete in the National Scripps Spelling Bee.

Elias said he has been studying the list of words. He said it is such an honor just to go to the national competition.

“It is such an honor just to go there. It is one of the biggest things on national television. It is huge,” he said.

The semifinals for the Scripps National Spelling Bee will be on ESPN on Wednesday.
