Berlin Center, OH (WKBN)- A total of seven baseball and softball teams from the Mahoning Valley punched their tickets to the Regional Tournament this week, and both Western Reserve teams are among those to make the cut.
The Western Reserve baseball team (18-5) is headed back to Division IV Regionals for the first time since 2010. The Blue Devils enter as one of the hottest teams, winning 11 of their last 12 games. Pitching has been the story, behind the one-two punch of Nick Allison and Tristan Bova. Allison has been the ace. He is 9 and 0, with an E-R-A under one, heading into the Round of 16.
“It is exciting, after coming off such a good year in football,” said Allison. “I wanted to continue doing good through the rest of the sports. and it is just keeping it going in baseball and it is exciting.”
The Blue Devils will play St. Thomas Aquinas in Lorain at The Pipeyard at 4 p.m.
As for the softball team, they are participating in their first regional tournament since 2007. The Lady Devils (20-2) were the top dog in the Lisbon District, cruising to the District Crown by a combined score of 24-4. So far, their hitting has carried them through the state playoffs, and the seniors are hoping for more of the same in the Regional Tournament.
“I do not wanna stop, and I know these girls do not wanna stop,” said senior Gabby Stubbs. “All the younger girls, they know they are helping us play and they are helping trying to continue our season on because they want to go as far as they can but they do not want to end it for us.”
The Lady Devils are set to play Seneca East at Kent State University this Wednesday at 5 p.m.
