Mother and daughter escape fire

MASURY, Ohio. (WKBN) – A mother and daughter from Masury are staying with family after a fire tore through their home Monday night.

The fire broke out just after midnight at the house on Chestnut Street, just off of Route 62.

Crews from Brookfield and Sharon arrived to find flames shooting out of the back of the home.

The pair escaped just in time as flames made their way from the first floor kitchen to the second floor.

The Brookfield fire captain said there is extensive smoke, heat and water damage to the house. Damage estimates are at about $35,000.

A cause has not been determined.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
