Pregnant girl, 15, expected to survive shooting

Shooting

DUQUESNE, Pa. (AP) – The mother of a pregnant 15-year-old western Pennsylvania girl says her daughter is expected to survive the shooting that killed her unborn son.

Police say 15-year-old DaRae Delgado was shot early Monday by someone who knocked on the family’s door in Duquesne, then opened fire after covering the peephole with their hand.

Allegheny County police have yet to identify or arrest suspects.

The girl’s son, who she had carried about seven months, died, but Delgado was expected to survive.

Her mother, Deanna Weams, says doctors told her the unborn baby apparently bore the brunt of the gunfire. She says her daughter remained at UPMC Mercy hospital on Tuesday.
