Man takes plea deal in stabbing death

Helmuth plea deal

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A North Bloomfield man was in court Wednesday answering murder charges.

William Helmuth, 45, appeared in Trumbull County Court where he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter.

Helmuth was originally indicted in January by a Trumbull County grand jury on two counts of murder in the Jan. 16 stabbing death of Craig Neighbor, 41, of Bristolville.

According to police, the two men got into an altercation at the Bristol Inn that ended with Helmuth stabbing Neighbor.

Helmuth said outside of the courtroom Wednesday that he is sorry and that he would trade places with the victim if he could.

Helmuth will be sentenced in June.
