Pedestrian hit by car in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A woman admitted to Youngstown police she intentionally ran another woman over with her car out of anger, according to police reports.

Officers were called about 3 p.m. Saturday to the 200 block of Curry Avenue on reports of a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian.

Witnesses said they say saw the driver of the car take off towards West Dennick Avenue. Police canvassed the area and found three women looking at the front end damage of a Pontiac Grand Prix in front of an apartment building in the 100 block of West Dennick Avenue.

Police noted heavy front-end damage to the car and a broken windshield with black hair in it, according to reports.

A man approached police and told them his daughter, Latefa D. Stanley, 20, had been driving the vehicle and called to tell him she hit a tree.When Stanley came out of the apartment building, officers noted that she was bleeding from the nose and an ambulance was called. Stanley was taken to Saint Elizabeth Health Center for treatment. At that time, Stanley denied hitting the woman on Curry Avenue saying she only hit a tree.

Once at the hospital, Stanley admitted to police that she was going to get Chinese food when the woman ran out in front of her and threw something at her car. She turned around and ran the woman over and then hit a tree, telling police that “her anger problems caused her to do it.”

Stanly was arrested at the hospital and charged with felonious assault. She is currently in the Mahoning County Jail.

The victim off the hit and run was taken to Saint Elizabeth Health Center with unknown injuries. She was not named in the police report.
